Resetting the opener after a lost or stolen remote

On many motors, this involves pressing and holding the learn button until the indicator light goes out or changes state. The hold time can be anywhere from a few seconds to more than 10 seconds. Check the motor label or manual where available, because this is the step most likely to differ by brand.

Once the memory is cleared, none of the old remotes should operate the door. Reprogram each remaining remote one at a time using the normal learn sequence. Do not forget vehicle-mounted remotes, wireless keypads and any remotes used by family members, tenants or a cleaner.

This is one situation where a full reset is worth the inconvenience. It is a simple security measure, particularly after moving house or changing tenants.
